Explaining the Goals of a Service Designer
“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” — Steve Jobs, co-founder, Apple
Many service designers, who primarily focus on creating worthwhile user experiences, fail to realize the business requirements.

An article on the SDN Website. https://shorturl.at/cqwE5.  The Evidence of Design 2.0 - An Impactful Service Identity Designed with AI, offered that empathy and caring are hallmarks of a good design.  The International Service Design Institute, the service training organization I co-founded, has run multiple surveys asking service designers to name key attributes of a service designer. The terms caring and empathy are consistently among the top vote-getters.

How to Design and Test Services
When services are well designed, users achieve desired goals, and the experience is seamless. Yet when services are poorly designed, or not designed for users, the outcome is uncertain – potentially leading to failure and ultimately unhappy users. Here is an anecdote about service failure.

Frank had a terrible experience trying to navigate a parking lot.  It's all too common. that services are designed for a desired outcome, yet users' needs are often ignored or forgotten.

When engaged, service designers remove uncertainty of a service through tests.

Google Celebrates 25 Years Crafting User Experiences
With a sophisticated algorithm and a knack for user experience, Google forever changed how we find knowledge online. But the search engine celebrates its 25th anniversary under unfamiliar pressure from antitrust cases and AI competitors.

t wasn’t that long ago when finding the answers to simple questions like this wasn’t all that simple. You might call a friend or family member who was handy in the kitchen, or hope that a cookbook at home had some instructions”.

With these words ts invention, Google Search, which has forever changed how we find knowledge online. Over its 25-year existence, ‘to Google’ has become a verb as ingrained in everyday language as terms like  ‘to search’ or ‘to think’.
